Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating a two-vehicle traffic crash at Longreach this morning.
Preliminary inquiries indicate at 5.55am a road train was exiting Warbler Court and turning right onto Cramsie-Muttaburra Road toward Longreach.
A Great Wall utility has been heading outbound on Cramsie-Muttaburra Road and has struck with the third trailer of the road train.
The driver of the utility, a 61-year-old Ilfracombe man, died at the scene.
The male passenger in the ute has been transported to the Longreach Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the truck was not physically injured in the crash.
Cramsie-Muttaburra Road remains closed and investigations are continuing.
