Police responding to serious traffic crash at Oxenford

Police investigating a serious traffic crash at Oxenford tonight, Thursday May 19, are calling for witnesses, especially those with dashcam footage to come forward.

Around 5.30pm four vehicles collided on the Coomera Bridge overpass, just past the Oxenford off ramp, northbound on the Pacific Motorway/M1. Multiple patients, including a woman who was entrapped in one of the vehicles and an infant child were assessed at the scene, however there were no critical injuries.

Two of the occupants of a 2010 white Freelander Landrover station wagon involved in the crash fled the scene and a lengthy foot pursuit occurred with a 33-year-old Gold Coast woman taken into custody near the crash site at Reserve Road by Police Dog Okka and his handler. A 34-year-old Gold Coast man did no surrender, swimming across Yawn Creek, Coomera, tracked by Police Dogs Okka and RJ and their handlers with the assistance of Polair1. The man secreted himself in mud and was apprehended a short time later by the police dogs in swampland off Heathwood Drive and Reserve Road.

The pair are in police custody and investigations continue.
