Police were called to North Bondi this afternoon to help deal with a large seal, perched on the beach.
Around 2pm today (Wednesday 24 July 2019), the Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia or ORRCA was alerted about the presence of the Leopard seal near rocks.
Volunteers rushed to the beach, concerned about the danger to the public.
An hour later, ORRCA contacted officers from the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command and advised them about the risk posed by the seal to members of the public.
Police established a perimeter to control a large crowd that had gathered to view the animal.
A 50-metre exclusion zone was set up as ORRCA experts and local lifeguards isolated the mammal from passers-by.
The seal did not appear to be in distress and remains in the care of animal welfare officers.
