Police search for driver at West Hindmarsh

Investigations are continuing to locate a driver after a car did a burnout in Hindley Street early this morning.

The white Ford sedan did a large burnout in Hindley Street, Adelaide about 5.30am on Sunday 18 December, and then another one in Victoria Street.

Police followed the vehicle as it headed west out of the city, but it ran out of fuel and was abandoned in Bertie Street, West Hindmarsh.

Two passengers were quickly apprehended by patrols, but the alleged driver ran off, jumping fences.

Police set up cordons and called in Police Dogs Zeus and Axe to help search the area.

A cursory search of the vehicle uncovered numerous knives. The Ford will be seized for further forensic examination.

A 20-year-old female passenger has been issued with a cannabis expiation notice and a 17-year-old male passenger is expected to be charged over possession of some of the knives.

The driver has not yet been located and investigations are ongoing.

Anyone who sees any suspicious activity in the West Hindmarsh area this morning should contact the police assistance line on 131 444.
