Police search for Richmond car thief

Detectives from Yarra Crime Investigation Unit continue to investigate a car theft which occurred in Richmond on Wednesday 23 June.

Investigators have been told a white 2017 Volkswagen Golf R hatchback, registration AMI-766, was listed for sale on an online marketplace.

An unknown man attended an address on Lennox Street about 4.50pm to view the car.

He took the car for a test drive with the owner.

After the test drive, the offender pulled the car over to change driver, but drove off as soon as the victim got out of the vehicle.

The car was last seen heading east along Swan Street.

The offender is perceived as being of Asian appearance and was wearing a black top with white writing on the back, black jeans and white Nike sneakers.

He had a black facemask and eczema on his hands.

Investigators have released a computer-generated image of a man they believe can assist with their enquiries.

The vehicle remains outstanding and the investigation is ongoing.
