Police Seek Footage, Info in Cessnock Assault

Detectives are appealing for dashcam footage and information following an assault and attempted robbery near Cessnock last week.

About 4.15pm on Friday 15 August 2025, police were called to Cessnock Road, Weston, following reports of an assault.

At the scene, police were told that a 27-year-old man and an unknown male were involved in an altercation before a group of other young males attended the area and began to assault the man.

The 27-year-old was allegedly assaulted with a bat and axe before members of the group demanded his necklace and cigarettes before they left the scene empty handed.

The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, did not require hospital treatment.

Officers attached to Hunter Valley Police District were notified and commenced inquiries into the incident.

As inquiries continue, police urge anyone with dashcam footage from the area to come forward.
