Police are currently searching for a man who is believed to have gone missing while fishing in Nyah West yesterday.
Officers have been told the 56-year-old man left a note for a friend - advising he was going fishing at Trotting Track along the Murray River - during the morning of Thursday 5 November.
The alarm was raised about 6pm when the missing man failed to return home and a search of the river found what appeared to be the abandoned fishing set up, a mobility scooter and no sign of the missing man.
Personal items were also located at the scene.
Enquiries by police have established:
- Witnesses spotted the man, who rides a mobility scooter, ride past them near the river about 10.30am.
- Campers at the local recreation reserve noticed the fishing set up around 3pm but didn't see anyone on site.
Police hold increasing concerns for the missing man who has failed to make contact with anyone and hasn't been seen since early yesterday.
Local police, Victoria Police Air Wing and State Emergency Service personal searched the river, local tracks, the surrounding area and riverbank overnight - and have failed to find any trace of the missing man.
Victoria Police will be assisted by NSW Police who are this morning providing a land search team and marine unit.
It is expected Victoria Police divers will also be on site later this morning.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
