Police are appealing for information as part of an investigation into a carjacking earlier today at Bathurst.
About 10.35am this morning (Sunday 27 April 2025), a 44-year-old man parked his vehicle, a white Mazda utility, in the lower-level carpark of Bathurst City Centre on Howick Street, Bathurst, when he was approached from behind by a man, who punched him several times in the head.
The man then jumped in the vehicle and drove off.
The 44-year-old man was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics and then conveyed to Bathurst hospital for a possible dislocated shoulder, cuts and abrasions.
Police from Chifley Police District attended and established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.
As investigations continue, police have released a description of the man who stole the vehicle, which is described as a 2022 white Mazda dual-cab tray with a silver toolbox on the tray and fitted with a black bull-bar at the front. The registration number of the vehicle is CV 45 AI.
The male is described as being Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander in appearance, aged in his 202-30s, about 170cm, of medium build, wearing a black hoodie with white motif and black pants.
The vehicle was last seen heading in an easterly direction on the Great Western Highway.
