Police seek information on Arson in Katherine

Northern Territory Police and Northern Territory Fire Rescue Service (NTFRS) are continuing to call for information after a number of suspicious fires in Katherine over the weekend.

At around 4:30pm yesterday, emergency services received reports of a fire at a commercial premises on Giles Street. On arrival, a storage unit was found completely destroyed by the blaze. No injuries were reported.

At around the same time, NTFRS responded to a fire at a residence on Fordham Court. No injuries were reported.

Both fires come after a similar incident at the same location on Giles street on Saturday.

The Katherine Criminal Investigation Branch and a Fire Investigator from Darwin are on scene.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Lawson said, "Police are working closely with NTFRS to investigate the cause of these fires and find those responsible.

These are serious incidents and at this stage we believe at least two of them are linked".

"It is incredibly lucky no one was seriously injured and police are urging anyone who witnessed anything suspicious, or who has other information, to make contact on 131 444. Please quote 9962833".
