Police Seek Witnesses: Fatal Southern Motorway Crash

Police are seeking information from members of the public following a fatal crash on State Highway 1 on 25 July.

The single-vehicle crash, near the East Tamaki off-ramp, was reported to Police just before 9pm.

The sole occupant of the vehicle, a 22-year-old man, sadly died at the scene.

Detective Sergeant Wayne Gear, Serious Crash Unit, says Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash, and has not yet spoken with Police, to come forward.

"We would like to thank everyone who has spoken to us so far, however we understand there were a number of vehicles in that area at the time.

"Enquiries indicate there may have been a race or altercation involving another road user prior to the crash, and we are keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage that could assist the investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police via 105 and reference file number 260726/7341.

Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
