Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses to a sexual assault that occurred in Casuarina on Wednesday afternoon.
At around 2:50pm, police responded to a report of a male allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse with an unconscious female on a footpath along Ellengowan Drive, Casuarina.
It is alleged that the male assaulted the female, causing injuries to her face and knocking her unconscious before sexually assaulting her.
A 48-year-old male was arrested at the scene and taken to Palmerston Watch House. He has since been charged with:
- Sexual intercourse without consent
- Gross indecency in public
He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Gavin Hopwood said, "Police have spoken with a number of witnesses however, we believe there were more witnesses in the area at the time who have not come forward yet.
"Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has dash-cam footage of area, between 2pm and 3pm, is urged to make contact with us on 131 444. Please quote reference number 9972266."
