Police to seek extradition of wanted man and charge truck driver who drove him across border

Organised Crime Squad detectives will seek the extradition of a man to NSW after he was arrested in Queensland this morning and have laid a charge against the truck driver who allegedly drove him across the border.

Strike Force Jillabenan II was established by Organised Crime Squad detectives to locate a 33-year-old man, who was wanted for a breach of a bail and last seen at Bayview on Monday 25 October 2021.

The investigation was assisted by the Australian Federal Police, the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, Australian Border Force, the NSW Crime Commission, and interstate police.

Acting on information from investigators, Queensland Police stopped a truck as it crossed the border into Queensland about 1am today (Wednesday 10 November 2021).

Officers searched the container on the back of the truck, where they located the 33-year-old man hiding inside a grey Mercedes.

He was arrested and taken to Southport Watch House, where the warrant was executed.

Organised Crime Squad detectives are travelling to Queensland, where they will apply for the man's extradition to NSW at Southport Magistrates Court, where he is due to re-appear tomorrow (Thursday 10 November 2021).

Meanwhile, the 46-year-old male truck driver was arrested by officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command during a vehicle stop at Tucabia, near Grafton, just before 9am.

The truck has been seized and will undergo forensic and compliance-related examinations.

The Yowie Bay man was taken to Grafton Police Station, where he was charged with do act intending to pervert the course of justice.

He was refused bail to appear at Grafton Local Court this afternoon.

Investigations under Strike Force Jillabenan II are ongoing.
