Police Treating Fire As Suspicious, West End

Police are investigating a suspicious unit fire in West End last night, July 3.

About 9.05pm, police and emergency services were called to Percy Street to reports a number of units were on fire.

Upon arrival, police located a unit well alight which had spread to a second unit.

Officers heard a female screaming, who was trapped in the second unit, and forcibly gained entry to extract the 54-year-old West End woman.

She was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to Townsville University Hospital.

A number of officers were also treated for smoke inhalation however, no one else was injured.

A crime scene was declared and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

Police are appealing for anyone with relevant information, CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
