Detectives are investigating two deliberately fires in the northern and western suburbs overnight.
Just before 2am Tuesday 24 February, police and fire crews were called to a business premises on Hancock Road, Ridgehaven following reports of a structure fire. On arrival, crews found the building ablaze and despite the swift efforts of fire fighters, the business was extensively damaged. Adjoining business premises also sustained damage from smoke and water.
About 45 minutes later, around 2.45am, police and fire crews responded to Fitzroy Terrace, Thorngate with reports of a fire in the front yard of a home. The quick-thinking owner extinguished the blaze prior to the arrival of emergency services, preventing any damage to the house.
Fortunately, no injuries were sustained in either incident.
Detectives and crime scene investigators attended both scenes and are treating the fires as suspicious. Police also believe the incidents are linked.
