Police treating house fire as suspicious - Matraville

Police have commenced an investigation following a house fire in Sydney's eastern suburbs today.

About 1.30am (Thursday 23 January 2020), emergency services were called to Flinders Street, Matraville, following reports of a house well alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, but the house suffered extensive damage.

A man, aged 38, was home at the time and already evacuated. He was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital as a precaution.

Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Area Command attended and commenced inquiries. Once the house is deemed safe, it will be handed over to police and a crime scene will be established.
