Police update 2: Charges - Serious hit and run, Norman Gardens

Police have charged a 17-year-old boy following an investigation into a hit and run incident at Norman Gardens on December 24.

The boy has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm and leaving scene of incident without obtaining help.

He will appear before the Mackay Children's Court later today.

Earlier: Police will allege at around 1am on December 24, a white ute travelling along Yaamba Road at the intersection of Moores Creek Road hit a male pedestrian.

The utility failed to stop and left an 18-year-old man seriously injured on the road.

Members of the public rendered first aid to the man prior to the arrival of emergency services.

He was transported in a critical condition to Rockhampton Base Hospital.
