The University of Hong Kong (HKU) successfully hosted its annual Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions 2026 (IDAY) on October 24, 2026, on campus. This highly anticipated event drew a record-breaking number of over 100,000 prospective students and families from diverse backgrounds, offering a comprehensive overview of HKU's vibrant academic community and innovative programmes.
Building on HKU's dedication to fostering innovation and interdisciplinary learning, this year's theme, "Shape a More Sustainable World with AI," showcased how artificial intelligence is transforming diverse disciplines across the university. Attendees explored how HKU's programmes integrate AI literacy and practical skills to prepare students for careers in technology, arts, humanities, business, medicine, law, science, and beyond, empowering them to contribute to a sustainable future.
Engaging warmly with prospective students, Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU, emphasised that HKU is not merely a sanctuary of academic knowledge, but a launchpad for sparking innovative thinking and empowering students to boldly pursue their dreams. Professor Zhang remarked, "Our goal at HKU is not to hand you a ready-made map of the future, but to empower you with the courage and capacity to chart your own course through uncharted territories. We hope you will learn to ask questions that no one has conceived before, and boldly define an extraordinary path that is uniquely yours."
