Police update: Attempted armed robbery at Walkerston

A 35-year-old Walkerston man has been charged following an attempted robbery in Walkerston overnight in which a man was shot.

It will be alleged around 7.45pm a man attempted to steal a car from outside a Bold Street motel when he was confronted by a member of the public.

A 34-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen and was transported to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Other members of the public managed to restrain the offender with police arriving on the scene soon after.

A 35-year-old Walkerston man has been charged with attempted armed robbery and assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed.

He will appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court tomorrow, September 6.
