Police update: Charges laid after crime spree in Chifley Police District

Four men will face court today after an alleged crime spree in the state's Central West this week.

Officers from Chifley Police District have been investigating four incidents that occurred between 10.15pm on Tuesday (11 May 2021) and early yesterday (Wednesday 12 May 2021),

  • At 10.15pm a 35-year-old man was allegedly stabbed, and his car stolen, during an aggravated break, enter and steal in Macquarie Street, West Bathurst. The man suffered two stab wounds to the leg and was taken to Bathurst Health Service before undergoing surgery. Just before 1am the vehicle was destroyed by fire in Limekilns Road, Forest Grove
  • A 52-year-old man was asleep in his car in Stephens Lane at 12.20am, when he was allegedly assaulted and robbed. He was conveyed by NSW Ambulance paramedics to Bathurst Health Service for a wrist injury.
  • A samurai sword was thrown through the passenger side window of a vehicle travelling along Lambert Street, Bathurst, at 2.30am. The car was damaged but there were no injuries
  • About 3.20am, a motorcycle was stolen during an aggravated break and enter in Moresby Way, West Bathurst. Shortly before 6am it will be alleged the men returned to the premises where they were confronted by an occupant who was assaulted by the men before leaving the scene prior to police arrival.

Officers from Chifley Police District were conducting inquiries in Moresby Way, about 6.30am, when the four men again returned to the location. One of the men has commenced to smash a CCTV camera at the location with a large paling stake. Police have attempted to arrest the 24-year-old man where he threw the paling stake at the officers narrowly missing them. The man has fled in a vehicle with the other males.

About 7.45am, police attended an address in Bannerman Crescent, Kelso, and arrested the 24-year-old man. During the arrest it will be alleged he assaulted, resisted and threatened officers. Located in his possession was a knife and 0.48 grams of methylampetamine.

Upon sighting police, a 25-year-old man attempted to avoid police by jumping over a fence but was arrested after a short foot pursuit. Upon being taken into custody the male resisted arrest before he was handcuffed.

A 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene without incident.

A fourth man, aged 27, was arrested at West Bathurst, shortly before 1pm.

All four men were taken to Lithgow Police Station.

A 24-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with:

  • Robbery in company cause wounding/GBH
  • Aggravated assault with intent to rob
  • Aggravated break & enter dwelling etc in company steal
  • Assault police officer in execution of duty
  • Resist officer in execution of duty
  • Intimidate police officer in execution of duty
  • Carry cutting weapon upon apprehension
  • Possess prohibited drug

Police also charged a 27-year-old Parkes man and a 32-year-old Bathurst man with:

  • Robbery in company cause wounding/GBH
  • Aggravated assault with intent to rob
  • Aggravated break & enter dwelling etc in company steal

A 25-year-old Perthville man was also charged with Robbery in company cause wounding/GBH, Aggravated assault with intent to rob and Aggravated break & enter dwelling etc in company steal

All four men were bail refused and are due to appear in Bathurst Local Court today (Thursday 13 May 2021).
