Police update: Disturbance in Darwin CBD

Northern Territory Police have charged four people following a disturbance in the Darwin CBD on Sunday evening.

Superintendent James O'Brien said, "The incident outside a Mitchell Street venue on Sunday evening was an isolated incident within the Darwin CBD. The group of men took it upon themselves to disrupt others who were eating dinner and just enjoying a nice social evening out in Darwin.

"Little did these men realise that the public didn't take too kindly to their behaviour. The multiple triple zero calls made by the public, the excellent work of the CCTV Unit in tracking these men through the CBD and the swift arrival of local police led to the arrests of four males."

The four men are appearing in court today facing charges of going armed in public and engage in violent conduct.

"Even though we don't encourage people to get involved with armed offenders, I'd like to thank the security officer for his assistance in disarming one of the men involved," Superintendent O'Brien said.
