Police update: Fatal crash at Townsville

Police have charged a man in relation to a fatal crash at Garbutt on March 15.

It will be alleged just after 2.30am a Volkswagon Amarok was travelling west on Dalrymple Road when the driver has failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Duckworth Street and collided with a Mazda 3 which had been travelling north on Nathan/Duckworth Streets.

A 50-year-old North Ward man was driving the Mazda 3 and died at the scene.

On August 31 police served a notice to appear on a 26-year-old Mount Louisa man.

He has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, fail to stop at t red light and driving under the influence of liquor (0.244).

He is due to appear at the Townsville Magistrates Court on September 23.
