Police Update: Homicide Investigation At Beenleigh

Police have charged a man with four offences, as part of ongoing investigations into the shooting death of a man at Beenleigh on Tuesday night, 2 December.

It will be alleged that around 10.40pm, a 35-year-old Bahrs Scrub man received a gunshot wound to his chest at Hugh Muntz Park.

He was declared deceased at the scene shortly after.

Subsequent investigations identified a white Kia Stonic left the scene shortly after the shooting.

The white 2021 Kia Stonic was reported stolen during a burglary at an address on Oberon Way, Oxenford, sometime between 12.40pm and 1.50pm on 24 November.

Police located the stolen vehicle driving along Kumbari Avenue at Labrador, and a Tyre Deflation Device was successfully deployed on the Jabiru Island Bridge around 1.30am.

The vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of Helensvale Road and Hope Island Road, Hope Island, and the driver fled on foot into nearby bushland.

A subsequent search of the area allegedly located a firearm and a man hiding nearby, who was arrested at 2.15am.

It will be alleged that a search of his clothing located ammunition.

A 22-year-old Beenleigh man has now been charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of weapon (firearm), possessing explosives (ammunition) and receiving tainted property.

He is scheduled to appear at the Beenleigh Magistrates Court today, 4 December.

Investigations continue into the man's death.
