Police update: Recovery operation, Cato Reef

Police will prepare a report for the coroner after finalising their search efforts this week for a 71-year-old New South Wales man who was last seen in waters off the coast of Central Queensland.

He was reported missing in the Coral Sea (Cato Reef), around 260 nautical miles east of Yeppoon on Saturday, December 14.

Despite a coordinated wide-scale sea and air search, there has been no sign of the man since.

The 15-metre sailing vessel he went missing from was escorted into Urangan Marina on Tuesday evening.
