A man is assisting police with inquiries after two people were assaulted in Carrara early this morning.
It will be alleged around 4am a 38-year-old Carrara man and a 46-year-old Carrara woman have been woken by their dogs and observed a light coming from their lounge room.
The male victim has then confronted an unknown man in the lounge room.
An altercation has occurred, and the male victim received wounds to his torso, right shoulder and a cut to his face. The female victim also suffered an injury to the chest.
The man then fled the scene.
The male victim remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition. The female victim was treated for her injures and discharged.
This afternoon detectives took an 18-year-old Carrara man into custody, and he is assisting police with inquires.
