Police Update: Stolen Vehicle Investigation At Cairns

Police have charged five males after three stolen vehicles were driven across Cairns today, 27 May.

Initial investigations indicate a white GWM Tank was allegedly stolen from Earlville overnight, a silver Toyota Yaris was allegedly stolen from Parramatta Park early this morning, and a silver Mitsubishi Pajero was allegedly stolen from Edmonton sometime between 25 and 26 May.

It will be alleged the vehicles were observed driving dangerously through several Cairns suburbs throughout the day and were involved in multiple incidents.

Polair assisted officers on the ground as police monitored the movements of the vehicles.

Around 3pm, officers successfully deployed a tyre deflation device in Cairns City and intercepted the Yaris, taking four juveniles into custody.

The Pajero was located around 10am in Bungalow. The GWM was located around 2pm in Portsmith.

A 15-year-old Westcourt boy has been charged with three counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlicenced driving, and one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, break and enter dwelling, enter premises and commit indictable offence.

A 17-year-old Manunda boy has been charged with three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and two counts of stealing.

A 17-year-old Earlville boy and a 16-year-old Westcourt boy have both been charged with three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

All four boys will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Thursday, 28 May.

An 18-year-old Earlville man, believed to have been travelling in the GWM, was also taken into custody at an address in Earlville.

He has been charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and will appear at Cairns Magistrates Court on Thursday 28 May.
