Campaspe Shire Council has opened expressions of interest for community organisations wishing to run markets in the Port of Echuca precinct during the 2026-27 financial year.
Each year, the EOI process determines which market operators will activate the designated Port of Echuca area - stretching from the Heygarth/High Street roundabout through to the historic Pump House, and across to the Warren Street roundabout, including the area between the Murray and Campaspe rivers - for the upcoming year.
Mayor Cr Daniel Mackrell said markets continue to play an important role in encouraging residents and visitors to spend more time exploring the Port.
"Markets bring a unique atmosphere to the precinct and give local makers and producers an opportunity to shine.
"They not only add colour and energy to the area but also support local businesses and contribute to a welcoming experience for everyone who visits," Cr Mackrell said
Submissions are invited from co-operatives and incorporated associations based within Campaspe Shire. Organisations from outside the municipality may also be considered at Council's discretion.
"With the Port of Echuca Discovery Centre, Visitor Information Centre, galleries, gardens, the historic Wharf and Paddlesteamers already drawing strong crowds, markets provide another reason for people to stay longer and enjoy what the precinct has to offer," Cr Mackrell said.
"I encourage community groups to put forward their ideas for the year ahead."
All markets must focus on locally made or grown produce, handmade goods, second-hand items or craft. Commercial market operators and resellers are not eligible to apply.
Applications close Sunday, 29 March at 11.59pm.
