Logan City Council has flicked the switch on a policy to investigate installing electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS) to meet rising demand for the technology.
Council-owned sites across the city are being considered for EVCS as the organisation further strengthens its commitment to sustainable energy.
Council has identified almost 60 potential sites, including Logan Entertainment Centre, Logan Metro Sports Centre, Council's Administration Centre in Logan Central and the Logan Village Green.
There is at least one site under consideration in each of the 12 electoral divisions across the city.
Location, nearby facilities and grid capacity, along with driver and pedestrian safety, were considered when identifying sites.
Environment Chair, Councillor Jon Raven, said the plan demonstrated Council's commitment to carbon reduction and helping mitigate climate change issues.
"We are committed to supporting the uptake of electric vehicles across the City of Logan," he said.
"We have some of the strongest environment credentials of any council across Australia, and these initiatives further bolster those credentials.
"Electric vehicles are the future, and we want to give residents plenty of options to conveniently charge their cars locally."
Next year, Council will invite submissions from charging station providers to install them at approved sites.
It is Council's latest step in EVCS support. Last year, Council committed to have half its passenger vehicle fleet transitioned to electric or hybrid by 2026, under the Green Fleet - Sustainable Fleet Strategy 2021-2026.
Council aims to achieve a 20 per cent reduction in pollution and waste and have half of its passenger vehicle fleet transitioned to electric or hybrid by 2026.
Council also has a target to be carbon neutral by the end of the year.
