The upgrade of the Prahran Aquatic Centre foyer is now complete.
Located off Essex Street, in the heart of Prahran's bustling Chapel Street precinct, over one hundred and fifty thousand people visit the centre each year, which features a 50-metre heated outdoor pool along with an indoor spa, sauna and steam room.
To improve safety and security for both staff and patrons, Council engaged Cohen Leigh Architects to redesign the foyer including a new high security sensor barrier at the entrance and a matching perspex screen to the reception desk.
Rather than having to wait at reception, members can now scan their unique barcode tag and gain access to the pool area through (think Myki), while casual patrons are welcome to pay at the reception desk and be granted entrance. An acoustic alarm sounds when the barrier is used without authorisation. The floor navigational lines were relocated making it easier for anyone who is sight-impaired to make their way through the foyer.
Centre visitors have told us that the quicker entry and improved safety have made visits to the pool a much more enjoyable experience.
Reception staff have reported a significant reduction in unauthorised entries and they feel noticeably safer in the renovated environment.
So, with the weather warming up, get your togs on and come over to the pool. Our friendly staff will be there to familiarise you with the system and how to use it.
