Downer EDI has today been announced as the preferred proponent to deliver the road component of the Denny Avenue METRONET level crossing removal project.
The company was also named as the preferred proponent to deliver the rail component package in December 2019.
The Denny Avenue level crossing removal project, which will replace the level crossing with a rail-over-road underpass at the nearby Davis Road, will be delivered through two separate design and construction contracts.
Work to be done as part of the road package includes realigning Third Avenue, sinking Davis Road under the elevated rail line, new cul-de-sacs for Third and Slee avenues, and works on Albany Highway.
Davis Road will be widened from two to four lanes, and three sets of traffic lights will be installed at the Albany Highway, Streich Avenue and Railway Avenue intersections.
The project now includes a civic infrastructure component for the revitalisation of the Kelmscott town centre, extensive landscaping and tree planting.
A McGowan Government election commitment, the project will make crossing the rail line safer for commuters, pedestrians and cyclists whilst also revitalising the Kelmscott town centre.
Interested community members can attend information sessions on Tuesday March 3 between 4pm to 7pm at the John Dunn Hall in Kelmscott and on Saturday March 7 between 8am to 12pm at Kelmscott Hall.
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"Denny Avenue is the first of up to eight level crossings to be removed as part of METRONET, with all but one on the Armadale train line.
"This project will not only remove a dangerous crossing and reduce road congestion, it will also give locals an enhanced Kelmscott town centre to enjoy.
"Denny Avenue will join a program of six METRONET projects under construction during 2020, which will upgrade Perth's rail network and create and support local jobs."

"The Denny Avenue level crossing is a major concern for Kelmscott residents - it is dangerous and difficult to cross.
"Once complete the level crossing removal will create a more vibrant Kelmscott town centre and make crossing safer.
"The McGowan Government continues to deliver on our election commitments while supporting local jobs."
