Premier refuses to listen to health experts on cuts

Tasmanian Labor
  • Experts tell Premier his cuts will hurt patients and health professionals
  • Liberals fail doctors, nurses, ambos and health professionals
  • Tasmanians paying for chaotic, dysfunctional Government
  • In Question Time today the Premier again failed to quarantine Tasmania's hospitals and the health system from the Government's $450 million of cuts.

Despite serious concerns being raised by health professionals, the Premier is determined to push on with its slash and burn agenda that will hurt the community.

"This is pushing the hospital and its patients to the edge of a cliff."

    Simon Judkins, ACEM President

"Cuts to hospitals' budgets will see patients not receiving the care they need when they need it and elective surgery patients having to wait longer for their operations, putting lives at risk."

    John Davis, AMA Vice President

"It is hard to imagine how we can do this without a substantial negative consequence for patients."

    Frank Nicklason, RHH Staff Association

Shadow Minister for Health Sarah Lovell said the Premier has failed health professionals and failed Tasmanians.

"The health system is in crisis, and the Premier and his government are determined to make the situation worse," Ms Lovell said.

"Doctors, nurses, paramedics and other health professionals are united in calling for the Government to spare the health system from its cuts.

"The Premier won't listen to experts, he won't listen to the community and he certainly won't listen to Labor.

"We know that more cuts will mean more lives will be lost unnecessarily. The Premier either doesn't care, or his position is so weak that he has lost control of his Government.

"Labor will this afternoon be calling for the health sector to be quarantined, so the Government will have an opportunity to vote in Parliament on its planned cuts."

    Sarah Lovell MP

    Shadow Health Minister
