The George Institute for Global Health and Imperial College London's School of Public Health are pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Ian Hamilton as Director of the Global Planetary Health Program and Chair in Planetary Health.
Professor Hamilton is an internationally recognised leader in planetary health, with deep expertise in energy, environment, and health research. His work focuses on the intersection of climate change, energy systems, and human health, with a strong track record of translating research into policy and practice at national and global levels.
He joins The George Institute from University College London, where he is Professor of Energy, Environment and Health and Vice Dean (Research) at The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment. Professor Hamilton has also served as Executive Director of the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change and has led major international initiatives examining the health co‑benefits of climate mitigation, building design, and environmental policy.

The appointment also strengthens collaboration between the George Institute for Global Health and Imperial College London, bringing together world‑leading climate science and global health expertise to address the health impacts of climate change and environmental degradation.
