NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA)

Leading environmental and regulatory law expert Professor Penelope Crossley has been appointed to the Board of the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA).

Professor Crossley is a Professor of Law at the University of Sydney and brings extensive leadership experience across the energy, environmental and circular economy sectors.

Her expertise spans regulatory design and implementation, energy transition governance, circular economy frameworks, end-of-life regulation and the lifecycle management of major energy and infrastructure assets.

She has been a solicitor for almost 20 years, chaired independent review and compliance bodies, and advised governments and international organisations.

EPA Board Chair Carolyn Walsh welcomed Professor Crossley's appointment, saying it will strengthen the Board's strategic oversight and governance capabilities.

"Professor Crossley brings an impressive breadth of experience and a deep understanding of the complex legal and policy challenges facing regulators," Ms Walsh said.

"Her knowledge of environmental law, regulation and compliance will bring an important perspective to the Board and complement the diverse skills and experience of its members.

"Her legal expertise will be particularly valuable as the EPA navigates increasingly complex environmental issues and continues to bolster its regulatory approach.

"This appointment marks an exciting new chapter, and I look forward to working closely with Professor Crossley over the next five years."

Professor Crossley said she is honoured to be appointed.

"It is a privilege to join the Board and contribute to the EPA's critical efforts to protect tomorrow together," Professor Crossley said.

"Working alongside my fellow Board members, the EPA executive and staff, I hope to help strengthen robust, evidence-based regulation and enforcement that earns public trust and confidence.

"The EPA operates in an increasingly challenging regulatory environment, and I am eager to support its work to build a more sustainable future for NSW."
