Program Delivers For Community

MidCoast Council

The MidCoast Open Spaces and Recreation Strategy that was adopted by Council in 2023 has delivered many beneficial projects for the community already.

The strategy sets out how open spaces including parks, gardens, sports fields, playgrounds, dog parks, foreshore areas, walkways, cycleways and other public spaces will be planned, maintained and delivered until 2035.

More than $5 million has been spent on building and maintaining different community assets, including the new Black Head Skate Park which is nearing completion.
This spending has been possible as a result of over $4.6 million in grant funding from the State and Federal Governments as well as a Council commitment of just over $1 million from developer contributions.
MidCoast Council's Director of Liveable Communities, Paul De Szell, said the strategy has been, and will continue to be, a big win for communities across the MidCoast LGA.
"The MidCoast Open Space and Recreation Strategy was developed for the community with extensive engagement," he said.
"From the feedback received we drafted a strategy that would guide how we manage and maintain open spaces for the next 12 years."
Some of the completed projects so far include;
  • Coopernook Park upgrade
  • New shade sails at the Gloucester Pool
  • New amenities building at Harrington's Esmond Hogan Park
  • Upgrade of the Singing Bridge boat ramp at Tea Gardens
  • Krambach playspace upgrade.
