The Canadian Coast Guard recommends that you wear your life jacket at all times. For more tips, including navigation laws and "rules of the road" on waterways, consult Transport Canada's Safe Boating Guide online.

We remind boaters that public health officials' guidance on physical distancing should be applied on the water. It is essential to follow guidelines set by public health authorities to avoid the spread of COVID-19. In accordance with health guidelines, our members practice physical distancing of at least two meters when possible, wash hands regularly, and wear a mask.

Search and rescue operations are an essential service and continue during the pandemic. However, if you are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19, we encourage you to stay home to prevent the spread of the disease. This also helps protect our crews. If you do decide to go out, we strongly recommend that you:

  • Ensure your boat is in good condition;
  • Share your trip plan with family or friends;
  • Have enough fuel and reserves;
  • Have a mask for each person on board, for your protection and that of our members, should we need to assist you.
