Property Council Hails New Federal Liberal Leader, Deputy 13 February

Property Council Chief Executive Mike Zorbas said the organisation looked forward to working constructively with the new leadership team as it shapes its policy agenda.

"We congratulate Angus Taylor on his election," Mr Zorbas said.

"The Opposition Leader has a strong history of engaging thoughtfully with a sector that directly employs 1.5 million Australians.

"A strong Opposition matters - it improves policy, lifts the quality of debate, and tests the Government's resolve on issues from housing supply to national productivity," Mr Zorbas said.

"Angus Taylor has demonstrated a long-term interest in the prosperity of cities and the importance of housing and a lawful construction industry.

"Housing delivery and productivity remain among the country's core economic challenges, and they need practical scrutiny from both sides of politics.

"We look forward to deepening our work with the Coalition on housing, boosting skilled migration, and trimming red tape over the coming parliament.

"We also congratulate Jane Hume on her election as Deputy Leader, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration on important policy issues.

"The property sector is the second largest employer in Australia, and a productive property industry and adequate housing supply is critically important to the prosperity of our nation.

"I extend my personal thanks to Sussan Ley and Ted O'Brien for their service to our nation and engagement with our industry, as Opposition Leader and Shadow Treasurer," he said.

Mr Zorbas said there was a fresh opportunity for the Coalition to strengthen policies that boost investment productivity and lift investment confidence.

"There's room for greater efficiencies across the Foreign Investment Review Board, Australian Prudential Regulation Authority and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

"Cutting delays in foreign investment decisions, growing the skilled workforce for construction and care, and driving a lawful, productive construction sector that lifts quality and sustainability will all support a policy mix that restores investment confidence," he said.
