Police have charged two men with multiple property crime offences after successfully intercepting a stolen vehicle in Mundingburra overnight.
The men were travelling in a white Ford Ranger utility which was allegedly stolen from River Park Drive in Annandale around 4.30pm yesterday, 6 August.
Police will allege the Ford Ranger was used in a burglary with violence offence in Railway Estate around 9.30pm last night, where a silver Mazda Bravo utility was stolen, and a 40-year-old man was assaulted with a hammer.
The male victim, a 40-year-old man received an injury to his hand and attended Townsville University Hospital for treatment.
Police will also allege the two men were involved in an armed robbery in North Ward in the early hours of 3 August, where a 65-year-old woman was threatened with a knife before the two males stole her car keys and mobile phone.
Around midnight, police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device in Cranbrook and the Ford Ranger was abandoned on Ross River Road in Mundingburra a short time later
Three people fled from the vehicle.
Police immediately established a cordon in the area and located and arrested the two men and a woman nearby.
Detective Inspector Jason Shepherd said the effort of local police including Tactical Crime Squad, dog squad, Polair and general duties officers was outstanding.
"The persistence and effort of all officers was exceptional and resulted in the location and arrest of the three offenders.
"We will allege the two men were linked to a number of violent burglaries and robberies in Townsville in the past week.
"Police and the community do not tolerate this abhorrent, violent, antisocial behaviour and local officers have worked tirelessly to locate these offenders.
"We again thank the community for their ongoing support by providing vital information enabling police to hold these offenders to account and put them before the courts," Detective Inspector Shepherd said.
A 24-year-old Vincent man was charged with 28 offences including eight counts of stealing, four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts each of enter premises and commit by break, enter dwelling with intent, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and attempted enter premises and one count each of armed robbery, armed robbery in company, dangerous operation of a vehicle, enter dwelling with intent armed in company, motor vehicle arson, attempted enter dwelling, enter dwelling and commit an indictable offence and enter premises with intent. Police objected to bail and the man is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today, 7 August.
A 24-year-old Palm Island man was charged with 24 offences including eight counts of stealing, five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of enter premises and commit, two counts of enter dwelling with intent and one count each of armed robbery, robbery, motor vehicle arson, attempted enter premises, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle and attempted enter dwelling. Police objected to bail and the man is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today, 7 August.
A 25-year-old woman was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and fail to dispose of a needle. She is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on 21 August.
