Bayside Council is investigating the cost of replacing the existing three-point basketball court at St Joseph Banks Park, Botany with a half basketball/netball court.
This new court would add to the park's existing amenities, including a playground, off-leash dog area, walking tracks and the proposed pump track.
Community demand for sports facilities, particularly basketball and netball, is growing due to increased local housing density and development. As a result, residents are seeking facilities to support their physical activities and social connections.
A half basketball/netball court would serve casual users and organised community groups, as well as enhancing the park's role as a vibrant, multifunctional open space for all age groups and abilities.
As part of the investigation Council will look at a new amenities block to cater for the increase in park visitors.
Council has requested a report within six months detailing feasibility, costs, funding options, and a proposed timeline. Council will also seek community feedback as part of the design process to ensure the proposal is in line with local needs and park usage.
