Proposed Traffic Calming Update: Bayside

Important Update on proposed traffic calming in the Bexley North and Kingsgrove precinct

Council has received feedback from a number of local residents about planned traffic calming in the Bexley North and Kingsgrove areas.

These works, funded by the Federal Government, were intended to support local traffic movements within the residential precinct and discourage 'rat runs' across neighbourhood streets.

Your Ward Councillors, the Mayor Councillor Joe Awada, Councillor Liz Barlow and Councillor Ron Bezic, having heard the concerns of local residents, have asked that the majority of the proposed traffic calming works stop until the June Meeting of Council, at which time Council will review and potentially overturn its earlier decisions.

The cease work from 19 May 2021 will impact:

  • Wolli Street
  • Staples Street
  • Edward Street
  • Oliver Street
  • Mabel Street
  • Rodgers Avenue
  • Alston Street

Additionally, Council has already resolved to delete the following two streets from the traffic calming plan.

No works will be undertaken in:

  • Laycock Street
  • Coveney Street

Pedestrian crossings, pedestrian islands, kerb blisters and roundabouts only will continue in a number of streets as previously advised.

These works will improve pedestrian safety and includes roundabouts redesigned and installed consistent with bus routes and reduced crossing distances for pedestrians.

Works will be undertaken in:

  • Caroline Street
  • Elizabeth Street
  • Banner Road
  • Farrell Street
  • Todd Street
  • Dowsett Street
  • New Illawarra Road
  • Shaw Street
