The Gold Coast's enviable lifestyle in the outdoors will be a focus in this year's budget with the City investing $221 million into sporting and recreation community facilities.
"Being outdoors is a part of the Gold Coast way of life which is why we will continue our commitment to maintain, improve and expand our parks, sports facilities and aquatic centres," Mayor Tom Tate said.
"Gold Coasters will continue to have ample green spaces to enjoy with the Greenheart project turning vacant land into a state-of-the-art park and outdoor space.
"The City has so far invested over $25 million into the first stage of Greenheart and once it is complete it will be the largest parklands on the Gold Coast."
Outdoor spaces in the City's north with be upgraded to meet the growing population in the fastest growing suburbs of the Gold Coast and upgrades will continue for Firth Park at Mudgeeraba and Pizzey Park at Miami.
Following Tropical Cyclone Alfred, extensive works are being carried out to return the beaches back to normal with long-term restoration works planned.
"Our beaches are such an important part of the Gold Coast lifestyle and this budget will help return them to pristine condition following TC Alfred and ongoing weather events and surf conditions."
The budget also ensures residents can meet and attend events with libraries and community centres having improved services and facilities.
Through the City's community grants program grass roots organisations are getting the opportunity to expand their services to help even more Gold Coasters.
"These projects are great examples of our commitment to improving the quality of life for everyone in our community."
