Public appeal - police assault at Townsville

Police are appealing for information from the community in relation to the assault of two police officers at North Ward today.

At around 11.10am this morning, police were responding to a disturbance at the intersection of Gregory Street and The Strand (pictured) when an altercation has taken place.

It is alleged a 28-year-old man has bitten a QPS officer resulting in the officer being transported to the Townsville University Hospital for treatment.

The man is also alleged to have kicked the other attending QPS officer in the head.

Police arrested the 28-year-old man who remains in custody.

Numerous members of the public were observed to have filmed the incident on mobile phones.

Detectives are requesting anyone with recordings or CCTV vision of the incident to contact police.

Investigations are continuing.
