The Tomaree National Park Plan of Management Draft Amendment for the Coastal Walk and Visitor Experience Improvements is open for public feedback.
National Parks and Wildlife Service Hunter Central Coast Director, Kylie Yeend, said that an amendment to the plan is required to enable the start of the Tomaree Coastal Walk project, a spectacular 20 kilometre walk from Tomaree Head to Birubi Point with inspiring visitor experiences including whale watching, 360-degree views of ocean vistas.
Ms. Yeend said: "The $6.7 million four-year Tomaree Coastal Walk project is part of an unprecedented NSW Government investment into NSW National Parks to increase nature-based tourism in New South Wales, boost regional visitor economies and improve community wellbeing.
"The project is an exciting opportunity to improve and expand nature-based visitor experiences in Tomaree National Park, develop an important tourism attraction for Port Stephens and build a valued legacy for future generations.
"The draft amendment was prepared to ensure the Tomaree Coastal Walk project meets the planning requirements and overall aspirations for the park. It includes the Draft Tomaree Coastal Walk Strategy, which provides more details on proposed visitor improvements.
"People are invited to provide feedback on both proposals", Ms Yeend said.
The draft amendment will be on display for public comment from 2 August until 16 September 2019, at the following locations:
