Council endorsed the draft Farmland Rating Categorisation Policy for public exhibition for a period of 28 days. The policy establishes a clear, consistent and transparent framework for determining eligibility for farmland rating categories across the Cabonne Local Government Area, in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993. The policy focuses on assessing land based on its dominant use, commercial farming purpose and profit motive, rather than its zoning, and introduces farmland subcategories including Extensive, Intensive, Environmental, Forestry and General Farmland. It also outlines application, assessment, review and appeal processes, together with minimum eligibility criteria for a range of agricultural activities, to ensure fair, equitable and consistent rating outcomes across the local government area.
