Public health and wellbeing plan now available

The plan sets the direction for action across State and local governments, the health and wellbeing sector and the community at large to achieve sustained improvements in the health and wellbeing of all Victorians.

The Victorian public health and wellbeing plan 2019-2023 has been released. The plan sets the direction for action across State and local governments, the health and wellbeing sector and the community at large to achieve sustained improvements in the health and wellbeing of all Victorians.

The plan identifies ten priorities, continuing the priorities of the previous plan with the introduction of two global threats to health and wellbeing; tackling climate change and its impact on health and decreasing the risk of drug resistant infections in the community.

The plan guides the department's work on making sure all Victorians enjoy the highest standards of health, wellbeing and participation at every age of their lives. In addition to setting a broad priority agenda, the plan seeks to direct attention towards four areas of focus for the next four years:- tackling climate change and its impact on health, increasing healthy eating, increasing active living and reducing tobacco-related harm. The plan also recognises potential co-benefits between priority areas, for example how actions to increase active living and healthy eating can contribute to reducing climate change.
