- Community invited to help shape the future of the ECU Mount Lawley site
- Draft Redevelopment Master Plan outlines a vibrant new mixed-use precinct
- Community information sessions being held to support understanding and feedback
The Edith Cowan University (ECU) Mount Lawley Redevelopment Project has reached a key milestone, with DevelopmentWA releasing the draft Master Plan for further community feedback.
The Draft Master Plan sets a long-term vision to transform the ECU Mount Lawley campus into a connected, inclusive and sustainable precinct. It outlines a considered approach to housing, open space, movement and future community infrastructure.
The redevelopment will retain a significant number of existing buildings, including the WAAPA buildings, existing student accommodation and administration and library buildings.
The plan has already been shaped by a broad range of local voices with DevelopmentWA engaging widely through surveys, focus groups, community information sessions and a dedicated community reference group (CRG).
The CRG brought together residents, local businesses and community organisations to guide the development of design principles with a strong focus on local identity, sustainability, green space and a people-first design.
The plan responds to calls to honour the site's history, support a mix of uses and strengthen its contribution to the surrounding neighbourhood. It respects local character, supports community connection and promotes thoughtful, high-quality design throughout.
The redevelopment will draw on the site's cultural, creative and educational heritage, and incorporate the unique characteristics of the neighbourhood.
The Draft Master Plan is now available to review and for the community to provide feedback on via the 'Your say' page of this project until 3August.
For more information, community members are encouraged to speak with the project team at one of DevelopmentWA's upcoming community drop-in sessions

As stated by Planning and Lands Minister John Carey:
"With Edith Cowan University, including the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, set to relocate from the Mount Lawley campus into a new city campus in early 2026, we have a unique opportunity to transform this 18.6-hectare site into a vibrant, connected precinct.
"The precinct will include diverse housing options, education, public spaces and community facilities, just four kilometres from the Perth CBD.
"This redevelopment retains and reuses many of the existing buildings for community use, including the WAAPA buildings and existing student accommodation.
"Community feedback has been instrumental in shaping the draft Master Plan so far, and I encourage the community to continue engaging in consultation to help shape the precinct's future."
As stated by Mount Lawley MLA Frank Paolino:
"This redevelopment presents a unique chance to deliver significant benefits to our community.
"We envision a future where the redeveloped site hosts a dynamic creative arts hub, a new primary school to provide much-needed relief for local families, and essential new housing.
"I encourage the local community to take part in this transformative and landmark project by giving their feedback through the consultation process."
