The Crisafulli Government is delivering safer journeys for Queensland kids getting to and from school in Term 2 with the opening of new school crossings.

Two new crossings opened this week at Ascot State School in Brisbane and St John's Catholic Primary School in Walkerston to align with the first week of the term.

Three more are set to be delivered in Toowoomba, Rockhampton and Mudgeeraba by the end of May, including at Darling Heights State School, Crescent Lagoon State School and Kings Christian College.

The Crisafulli Government's School Crossing Supervisor Scheme (SCSS) will see 33 schools receive new or upgraded crossings by the end of the year.

The investment delivered by the Crisafulli Government reverses Labor's planned cuts and will see the School Crossing Supervisor Scheme grow to more than 1,400 crossings at more than 700 schools, staffed by more than 2,100 supervisors.

Another crossing was completed at Wyreema State School ahead of schedule and opened earlier this year during Term 1, providing immediate safety benefits for its local school community.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the start of a new school term should be an exciting time, not a stressful one.

"With the new school term underway, our focus is firmly on keeping children safe on their journey to and from school," Minister Mickelberg said.

"The former State Labor Government cut funding for new crossing supervisors, leaving Queensland kids to cross increasingly busy roads.

"We are reversing those cuts, helping make sure kids can keep safe on the way to and from school.

"These new and upgraded crossings, supported by trained school crossing supervisors, make a real difference in reducing risk at busy school locations.

"The School Crossing Supervisor Scheme is a practical, community focused investment in road safety, delivered in partnership with councils and school communities.

"I encourage all motorists to slow down in school zones, follow directions, and look out for our crossing supervisors who are there to support our youngest Queenslanders."
