QPS Member Honored with Medal of Order of Australia

A Queensland Police Service (QPS) member has been awarded the prestigious Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in recognition of his dedication to the for LGBTIQ+ community, community safety and outstanding service.

Established in 1975, the OAM recognises Australians who have consistently demonstrated significant contributions to community or an exceptional achievement.

West End Police Station Acting Sergeant Ben Bjarnesen BM OAM, was recognised with the Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to LGBTIQ+ communities across Queensland, and his work within the domestic and family violence sector.

Across his policing career Acting Sergeant Bjarnesen BM OAM has been an advocate for LGBTIQ+ community members and victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.

Alongside his frontline duties, he has founded multiple organisations including the LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Foundation as well as joined forces with multiple support services including DVConnect.
