More than 315,000 Queensland men and women working in the the State's resources sector have helped Queensland post a new export record.
Queensland Resources Council Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane said Queensland Treasury analysis released overnight showed resource exports delivered more than $65 billion of the $85.2 billion total exports of Queensland goods in the 12 months to the end of April 2019.
"Coal remains Queensland's number one export and it's growing. Coal exports increased by almost $4 billion to $36.5 billion in the 12 months until the end of April. Coal exports have doubled over the last four years," Mr Macfarlane said.
"When it comes to resources, whether its thermal or metallurgical coal, metals or gas, Queensland has what the world needs, it wants more of it and is prepared to pay more for it.
"This is a result that more than 315,000 Queensland men and women working in the resources sector can be very proud of and Queenslanders can be very proud of them.
"The importance of the resources sector to Queensland is why the QRC and staff from its member companies joined Mayors and other industries at the Queenslanders Unite rally in Brisbane yesterday."
Mr Macfarlane said a strong resources sector strengthened Queensland, creating jobs, attracting investment in exploration and production, and paying more royalties and taxes to government.
"No one can take for granted the contribution the resources sector makes to their everyday lives – electricity in their homes, the gas in their kitchens for cooking and for hot water systems, coal and steel in their the cars and public transport to get them to and from school or work, the metals in their mobile phones, devices and appliances."
