Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council and Queanbeyan Multicultural Centre invite everyone to join in the vibrant festivities of the Diwali Mela Lantern Festival on Saturday 18 October 2025 from 5pm to 10pm at Queanbeyan Showground.
This free community event promises an evening filled with cultural celebrations, entertainment, and the enchanting beauty of lanterns and fireworks.
'We are so excited to be hosting the Queanbeyan Diwali Mela Lantern Festival with our community,' said Mayor Kenrick Winchester.
'Last year was such an incredible event with so many people enjoying the atmosphere and celebrating together, I look forward to another great event this year.'
The festival will feature a variety of activities, including:
- Community Lantern Parade - Join the procession at 8:30pm, showcasing beautifully crafted lanterns.
- Best Dressed competition – Dress in your vibrant Diwali attire and join the fashion parade in hopes of being crowned the best dressed attendee.
- Lantern-Making Workshops - Get creative and make your own lantern to participate in the parade.
- Cultural Performances - Enjoy performances that celebrate the rich diversity of cultures that celebrate Diwali.
- Fireworks Display - Witness a spectacular fireworks show from 9:00pm to 9:15pm that will light up the night sky.
- Free Children's activities – Facepainting, Jumping castles, QPRC Library story time, and more.
- Visit the SBS activation stall as they join us again as a sponsor.
Food vendors will be on-site offering a delicious array of culinary delights, ensuring there's something for everyone. Attendees are encouraged to bring their picnic blankets and enjoy an evening of fun, community spirit, and cultural enrichment.
This year we have more stallholders attending to sell traditional clothing, toys, and much more.
