- The Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start for Queensland tourism and the environment after a decade of decline under Labor.
The Crisafulli Government is unlocking new opportunities in the Broken River precinct of Eungella National Park as part of its plan to grow Queensland's visitor economy and get more people out experiencing the State's incredible natural environment.
The Expression of Interest process is seeking innovative, low-impact ideas that enhance the visitor experience while protecting the environmental values that make Eungella National Park in the Mackay Isaac Region so unique.
The milestone marks another step in delivering the Crisafulli Government's Destination 2045 plan, which is focused on creating more tourism experiences across Queensland and ensuring regional communities share in the benefits of a growing visitor economy.
After a decade of delay and decline under the former Labor Government - which approved just three ecotourism projects in 10 years - the Crisafulli Government is getting on with delivering new opportunities for regional tourism, local jobs and stronger regional economies.
Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said Destination 2045 was about creating more opportunities for people to experience Queensland's natural environment while protecting it for future generations.
"Eungella is one of Queensland's great natural treasures and the Crisafulli Government wants more people experiencing places like this firsthand," Minister Powell said.
"The more people connect with Queensland's incredible natural environment, the more passionate they become about protecting it for future generations.
"This is about showing the world that regional Queensland has some of the best natural experiences anywhere in Australia, with so much to see and do right across our State."
Member for Mirani Glen Kelly said the EOI would help strengthen the region's tourism offering and showcase one of Queensland's great natural assets.
"Broken River has all the ingredients to become an internationally recognised ecotourism destination," Mr Kelly said.
"Locals already know it as one of the best places in Australia to spot a platypus, with incredible rainforest walks and stunning scenery right across the precinct.
"This is another example of the Crisafulli Government backing regional Queensland tourism, local jobs and the future of communities like ours."
Expressions of Interest are now open and will close 30 August 2026.
