The Crisafulli Government is delivering a better lifestyle through a stronger economy with tradies, contractors and builders the first to be given access to digital licences.

Over the past few months, more than 105,000 tradies have been given access to nine Queensland Building and Construction Commission licences digitally, providing a secure option to maintain and show their work credentials.

The Crisafulli Government's delivery of digital credentials ends several years of delay in the rollout of digital licenses under the former Labor Government.

Licences include plumbing and drainage, fire occupational, mechanical services, building certifier, contractor, and nominee supervisor are now available via the Digital License app.

Since the initial rollout of digital Queensland Building and Construction Commission licences for pool safety inspectors and site supervisors on 30 September, more than 5,000 tradies have opted to go digital.

The final group of digital licences in the roll out were made available to 70,000 tradies on 4 November.

The Queensland Digital Licence already provides access to digital driver licences, recreational marine licences and photo identification cards with more than 1.1 million Queenslanders signed up to use the app, and around 1,000 new users signing up each day.

QBCC licence holders are set to benefit from the Queensland Digital Licence's industry-leading security measures to:

  • protect private information, reducing the risk of identity theft and fraud
  • store multiple licences safely and securely in one place
  • know their licence status, whether it is active, up for renewal or expired.

Minister for Customer Services and Open Data Steve Minnikin said the Crisafulli Government is committed to giving Queenslanders choice.

"Our goal is to ensure that every Queenslander, no matter their age, ability, language, or location, can access the services they need when they need them," Minister Minnikin said.

"Expanding our digital licence app not only benefits QBCC licence holders by reducing red tape for tradies, but it also provides peace of mind to businesses and homeowners, knowing that the information provided by their tradespeople is up to date, legitimate and secure."

Minister for Housing and Public Works Sam O'Connor said the new digital credentials were a game changer for Queensland tradies.

"By adding QBCC licences to the Queensland Digital Licence app, we're making it easier than ever for tradies, inspectors, site supervisors and more to carry and verify their credentials on the go," Minister O'Connor said.

"For homeowners it means they are able to easily verify licenced contractors in real time.

"We are allowing easier, secure sharing and real-time updates, removing the requirement of a physical card and improving efficiency across the board."

Master Plumbers' Association of Queensland CEO Penny Cornah supported the introduction of digital licensing for plumbers.

"It's a practical and modern solution that makes it easier for licence holders to manage their credentials, reduces paperwork, and supports the QBCC's digital transformation to improve efficiency and customer experience," Ms Cornah said
